All Hallow’s Read

October 27th, 2014

. Do you know about All Hallow’s Read? The idea is to give somebody a scary book for Halloween. Might I suggest TEN TENTACLES?

Cthulhu’s Pizza Kitchen

October 27th, 2014

Tentacle humor – just like TEN TENTACLES.

. TEN TENTACLES, a new chapbook of scary stories about squidly things, is now available – Just in time for Halloween! A friendly monster found in a dark alley. A tavern that exists between the planes of reality. A tentacle under a boardwalk. These are but a few of the oddities you’ll find in this […]

Robin Williams RIP

August 25th, 2014

. It’s been 2 weeks since Robin Williams killed himself and I’ve just completed a 10 day/12 film retrospective of his work. Back when I was ten, “Mork & Mindy” was the funniest thing in the world. His stand-up specials on HBO in the early-80’s when I was in junior high were mind-blowingly hysterical and, […]

My Brain Hurts…

August 7th, 2014

. Last night we saw MONTY PYTHON LIVE (MOSTLY).  I knew every line of dialogue and every song lyric for the entire 3 hour extravaganza. It made me wonder if my life would be any better if, instead of using that brain capacity for silliness, I’d learned the Periodic Table, or memorized the names of […]

. I thought I’d take a moment to thank Harold Ramis for all the entertainment he’s given over the years. As a writer, director and actor, from the 70’s up through the new millennium, he was involved with movies that meant a lot to me and were incredibly influential in my life. Favorites include: Animal […]

. Time for my Annual August Film Noir Festival! It coincides with the Film Noir Foundation’s Noir City Chicago. This year I watched 9 movies over 8 days. Wednesday 8-21-13 Home viewing Tonight’s Noir Fest Film – TRY AND GET ME (aka THE SOUND OF FURY) from 1950. Bad decisions lead to a lynch mob. […]

Elmore Leonard R.I.P.

August 20th, 2013

. “Try to leave out the parts that readers tend to skip.” Author Elmore “Dutch” Leonard died this morning. He was 87 years old. He was one of the best. Here are some random thoughts on this great writer: – My first exposure to Leonard’s writing was seeing the movie GET SHORTY when it came […]

. I was a fan of Richard Matheson before I had any idea who he was. My first exposure to his work was when I saw William Shatner get terrorized by the gremlin in the TWILIGHT ZONE episode “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” written by and adapted from a short story by Richard Matheson. Still one […]
